"You just can't keep adding and adding to your game" - Aaron Finch backs Virat Kohli's technique

Aaron Finch was captivated by Virat Kohli's take on him not playing fancy shots during his match-winning knock against the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Thursday, May 18.

Kohli played all orthodox shots during his 63-ball 100-run knock at a time when a new range of shots are being invented. He played a drive past the extra cover fielder, which was a treat to watch for everyone.

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Kohli stressed that he has stopped himself from adding more shots and wants to stay true to his technique, keeping in mind his national commitments, especially red-ball cricket.

"It's not about playing fancy shots and throwing my wicket away. We've got Test cricket (coming up) after the IPL, have to stay true to my technique," Kohli said after the SRH game.

Aaron Finch backed Kohli's thoughts, saying that if you want to add a shot, something else goes away from the game.

"I love what he said there about playing 12 months in a year and not having time to go away and practice new shots. He is always in game mode and the ability to add different shots to your arsenal and people have to understand that to do that, something else goes away from your game," Finch told Star Sports.

"You just can't keep adding and adding to your game. It just doesn't add up. For him to say, 'I play true to myself, I play true to the situation and I try and win every game for my team'," he added.

Kohli smacked 12 boundaries and four sixes for his 100 off just 63 balls. He shared a 172-run partnership alongside Faf du Plessis to set up RCB's run chase. Bangalore went home with four balls to spare and eight wickets in hand.

Virat Kohli jumps to fourth spot in Orange Cap list

With his destructive century against the SunRisers Hyderabad, Virat Kohli has now jumped to fourth spot in the list of highest run-scorers. He is placed behind Faf du Plessis, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal in the Orange Cap list.

The former RCB skipper has accumulated 538 runs from 13 matches at an average of 44.82, with one hundred and six half-centuries along the way.

He will look to add more runs to his tally when the Royal Challengers play their last league game against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday, May 21.
