The playing surface at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium is covered with plastic sheeting as rain showers delay the start of play on the second day of the third and final Test match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan on July 9. Heavy showers forced the groundstaff to cover the entire field at the Pallekele International Stadium. There were no immediate signs of the weather clearing up.

The match is well-poised as Pakistan reduced Sri Lanka to 44-3 after being shot out for 226 on the opening day.

Sri Lanka lead the series 1-0, having won the first Test in Galle by 209 runs. The second Test in Colombo was drawn.
