RCB to wear green jersey for match against Gujarat Lions

Royal Challenger Bangalore’s green jersey, part of an annual initiative

Royal Challengers Bangalore take on Gujarat Lions on Saturday in a contest of high stakes. RCB have four matches left to play, and are four points adrift of the top four. Saturday’s match is a must-win game for the Bangalore team, but they shall not be turning out for it in their customary jersey.

Instead of red and black, a green RCB side shall be taking on the orange of GL, in what promises to be a colourful encounter.

The RCB team have followed this practice of wearing green jerseys for one match every season since 2011, to promote their “Go Green” initiative, a move to create awareness about global warming and reduce its impact on the environment. The team have been regularly involved in activities like planting saplings, and they have also asked their fans to travel by public transport to save fuel.

The aim of this practice, as said by Director Sid Mallya, is for the team to become the 'World’s 1st Carbon Neutral Cricket Team'.

The RCB team have had two sets of jerseys for the ongoing season, and the green jersey is the third set that they shall be wearing. Wearing three different jerseys over fourteen matches is something that has not been seen at the IPL before.

In other developments, RCB captain Virat Kohli earned some new fans for auctioning off his RCB jersey and cap, raising Rs.21 lakhs for underprivileged children in the process.
