South Africa’s batting carnage in Mumbai against India finally stopped at 438 runs for the loss of 4 wickets (50 overs). They re-entered the record book of highest innings total in one-day internationals again with their mammoth efforts today in the final match of the five-match series at the Wankhede Stadium.
The Proteas score of 438 for 4 today stands fourth in the record list below Sri Lanka’s 443/9 against Netherlands and their own 439/2 against West Indies and 438/9 against Australia. It was also the highest ever score made on the Indian soil.
Every batsman scored runs more than the balls he faced and every bowler conceded runs more than the balls he bowled in the first innings of the match. Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis and captain AB de Villiers were the three centurions who led from the front and made 400 plus score possible.
