In the 3rd ODI in the ongoing 5-match ODI series between Australia and South Africa, Steve Smith hit a very innovative shot off a free-hit from the bowling of Morne Morkel.

It was the 50th ?over of the match and having overstepped on the previous delivery, Morkel attempted to york Smith. But with Smith well set and taking the attack to the South African bowlers, the Australian batsmen showed some brilliant reflexes to hit the ball to the fence.

The 25-year-old whipped the ball in between his legs and the ball raced to the bonudary at square leg. Commentator James Brayshaw, who was on air at the time, was taken aback by the shot and exclaimed: “Steve Smith’s starting to take the mick. You cannot get that ball to backward of square, it’s a foot outside off-stump!”

Smith’s 73 from 55 balls helped Australia reach 329/5 in their 50 overs, with South Africa faltering in their chase to hand the hosts a 73-win victory. The George Bailey-led side now lead the series 2-1, with the next match scheduled for Friday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
