Cricket Australia have announced three major changes to the team that was beaten by England in the second Test.

David Warner, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon have been brought into the squad to replace Phil Hughes, James Pattinson and Ashton Agar respectively for the third Ashes Test.

With James Pattinson being ruled out due to injury, and Hughes’s lacklustre form, both were expected to be replaced.

However, the exclusion of Ashton Agar may come as a surprise to some considering the promise he has shown in the first two Tests, both as a batsman and bowler.

David Warner, Australia’s problem child, scored a fluent 193 against South Africa A and will hope to continue his good form in the Ashes as well.

While Pattinson will be sorely missed by Australia, Starc will be hoping to make full use of the opportunity he has been given.

Meanwhile, Nathan Lyon will also be hoping to give his flagging Test career a major boost on a pitch that is expected to favour the spinners.

Australia are 2-0 down in the five-match series, and will be hoping to stage a comeback in an attempt to salvage some pride.
