According to reports, Ferrari-linked car makers Fiat and British company Vodafone could become the sponsors of Fernando Alonso’s Euskaltel-Euskadi cycling team.

Alonso saved the cash-strapped Spanish team from folding earlier this month by purchasing it for €6m and now, reports in various newspapers say that big names are fighting to be the sponsors of the team.

“Fiat could become the title sponsor,” reported Spanish newspaper El Periodico.

Meanwhile French newspaper L’Equipe reported that multinational company Vodafone and Canadian bicycle makers Cervelo have also expressed their desire to sponsor the team.

The reports will be welcomed by the cycling world, that was on the verge of losing the team a few months ago. Alonso earlier said that the team will be rebuilt from the scratch with Olympic road race champion Samuel Sanchez as the central figure.
