5 realistic signings that can make Chelsea title contenders again

Chelsea have had a horrible season so far and they're sitting in 10th place with 5 games remaining. After winning the Premier League last season they are on course to completing one of the worst premier league title defences in league history.

It has been really hard to see Chelsea in this state for me as a Chelsea fan and the only real positive from this season is that it has helped to set the real fans apart from the plastics. Chelsea, just like all the other top teams in Europe had a lot of plastic fans and this season has caused them to jump ship.

Fans from all over the word have been asking for a squad overhaul next season by selling more than half the squad. Although that is unrealistic there are some signings that the Blues could realistically make for the next season. This article is going to talk about 5 signings they could make for next season that can make them title contenders again.

1. Antoine Griezmann

Chelsea have really lacked in the left wing position this season. Eden Hazard has been woefully out of form this season and he has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. Pedro has also been largely inconsistent this season and it's time for a new left winger to come in.

Antoine Griezmann is in the form of his life and he's having one of the best seasons he's ever had. The Frenchman was linked with a move to Chelsea in the winter but talks broke between the two clubs. In 33 league games this season, he has scored 20 goals and has a good chance of winning the Champions League as well as La Liga this season with Athletico Madrid.

It is going to take a lot of convincing for Griezmann to move to Chelsea this season since it's likely that they'll play in Europe next season but it's still a very realistic signing. New Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte has shown some interest in Griezmann and he is a player who can end Chelsea woes.

2. Paul Pogba

Chelsea's midfield has been really bad this season. Cesc Fabregas and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are the only ones who have had a decent season. Oscar has turned into a club villain because of his largely inconsistent performances this season. Jon Obi Mikel and Nemanja Matic meanwhile have been inconsistent at best.

The Blues need at least 2 world class central midfielders for next season and Pogba can be one of them. Pogba has been linked with Chelsea since last summer and he could be the perfect signing for Chelsea.

The Frenchman is one of the best young talents right now and he has all the credentials to be a future Ballon d'Or winner. Again, it will take a lot of money and convincing for Pogba to come to Chelsea. That’s where Antonio Conte comes in. The new Chelsea head coach could use his Juventus connections to sign Pogba.

3. Radja Nainggolan

Naingollan has been heavily linked with Chelsea ever since Antonio Conte took over as head coach. Conte seems to be really interested in Naingollan and he could be the second world class central midfielder that they desperately need. The Belgium international has had a really good season so far and he's one of the primary reasons why Roma are placed 3rd in the Serie A table.

The 27-year-old is a no-nonsense midfielder who doesn't score and assist as much as Pogba but he is great defensively while also having an eye for a pass. He's one of the first players that Conte will be looking to sign this summer.

4. Dani Carvajal

Dani Carvajal can be Chelsea's prayer to their right-back problems.

Although Ivanovic is a Chelsea legend who has served at the club for many years it is time that the Londoner get a new first choice right back. The Serbian has been really bad this season and has often left Chelsea too exposed down the right. Carvajal could be the perfect problem to Chelsea's woes at defence.

The Spaniard has been second choice to new Real Madrid signing Danilo for most of the season and he seems to be unhappy at the Bernabeu. Manchester City and Manchester United are also reportedly in pursuit of his signature but Chelsea can come out on top.

The 24-year-old Spanish international came through the Real Madrid academy and broke into the first team in 2013. He has earned the praise of many experts with his great displays for Real Madrid. He's a good young talent and he can be a great signing for Chelsea.

5. Jose Gimenez

One of the many areas that need to be fixed for next year is the defence, to be more precise the centre backs. Chelsea legend John Terry looks set to leave the club next season because of not being offered a new contract and Kurt Zouma looks set to miss the first few months of next season because of the horrific injury he picked up. All of a sudden they're in even bigger trouble than before.

Gary Cahill and Matt Miazga are the other options left at centre-back. While Cahill’s performance has been suspect all season, Miazga does not have enough experience to be a regular starter.

Chelsea are in need of at least 1 world class centre-back for next year and Giminez could be the right choice. The highly rated centre-back is being chased by several clubs including Real Madrid and Barcelona and they will have to come up with a lot of money to sign him.

Both Guus Hiddink and Antonio Conte have shown interest in him and Chelsea will have to make a really big bid to get him. He's one of the players that's more unlikely to get than the others but it is still a realistic signing.
