Ajax forward and captain, Siem de Jong is expected to miss at least six weeks as he suffers from a collapsed lung, said a report on Sky Sports.
Ajax’s official website said that the 24-year-old had been suffering from persistent tightness and coughing before further investigation led to him being diagnosed with a collapsed right lung.
The player will remain in hospital and looks likely to miss the Champions League group stage opener next month.
Last season, post the departure of Jan Vertonghen, who left for Tottenham Hotspur, Siem de Jong was given the captain’s armband. Ajax won the Eredivisie title for 32nd time last season.
