The transfer window officially opened this week and a lot of transfer activity has already been confirmed, more than it usually is at this time of the window.

Arsenal, as usual have been at their silent best. Confirming Yaya Sanogo is hardly news for any Arsenal fan and only time will tell if he is actually one for the future.

As of now he is a France U-20 international and that’s all we generally know about him. Apart from the fact that he has scored four goals in one game.

No article during the transfer window is without speculation and that is a fact. Every year a club like Arsenal gets linked to 25-30 players and we sign around 2-3 – that’s a success rate of around 10-20%.

Currently, Arsenal fans are optimistic about signing Gonzalo Higuain and probably two other big names. If they work out and if clubs like Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United struggle early on due to managerial changes, we could easily take advantage.

We stand above Tottenham Hotspur and we firmly stand above Liverpool (who have made some interesting signings so far). Spurs have signed Paulinho, who had a brilliant Confederations Cup with Brazil, and he will help with that box-to-box role where Spurs looked the weakest after their striking department.

As an Gooner, I do dream of that amazing start that culminates with us winning the title. But realistically we are still in transition. Maybe I’m being cynical but if you take a closer look, you can see that it takes more than Higuain and big names to win a title.

Arsenal need the kind of balance they had with Thierry Henry, Robert Pires, Dennis Bergkamp, Freddie Ljunberg and Patrick Viera, which is lacking for quite some time.

Is there any chance of Arsenal winning the title? Definitely, there is.

We need Steve Bould and Arsene Wenger more than ever and the key word which was missing in all the previous trophy-less campaigns: consistency.

If Arsenal are to be title contenders, they would need to sign top-notch players, hope they find the right balance and ensure that they are consistent through the course of the season.
