Online whistleblower Football Leaks revealed on Wednesday that Atletico Madrid signed in 2013 an agreement to sell 30 percent of the rights of Spanish midfielder Koke to Quality Football Ireland, to settle part of the club's debt to this institution.
Football Leaks disclosed that on January 16, 2013, Atletico signed an agreement to give up 30 percent of Koke's rights in exchange for scrapping three million euros ($3.4 million) of the club's entitlements, reports Efe.
According to the 2013 document, Atletico owed Quality Football Ireland five million euros ($5.6 million) as part of signing Argentine Eduardo Salvio, who was sold later to Benfica, while the two parties agreed to allocate part of the deal for the redemption of Atletico's debt.
Koke earned 48 caps with the Rojiblancos since he joined the capital group, 38 of those as a starter. In 2014, Koke renewed his contract for five more years until 2019.
Football Leaks is a website run by anonymous Portuguese nationals, with the aim of increasing transparency in the soccer world, while they are continuously prosecuted over alleged information piracy and blackmail.
