Bayern becomes the most valuable club, leaps past Manchester United

Borussia Dortmund v FC Bayern Muenchen - UEFA Champions League Final

Bayern Munich have toppled Manchester United to become the club with the maximum brand value in the world.

The news comes four days after Bayern Munich’s Champions League triumph in London.

Brand Finance Plc valued Bayern Munich at €668million, which is more around an 8% increase from last year’s valuation. Manchester United have been demoted to the second place with a brand value of €650million.

“Bayern Munich is still very much a story of domestic dominance, however its continued presence in the Champions league has provided the club with access to a global audience,” said Dave Chattaway, Brand Finance’s head of sport.

“The challenge now for all Bundesliga clubs and the league itself, is to see if they can export their domestic brand strength into global opportunities.” he added.

Bayern Munich are at the top because of their “impressive financials and a growing international reputation for quality football,”

Spanish giants Real Madrid are third, valued at €482millions, followed by rivals Barcelona at €444millions and Chelsea at €325millions.

The top 20 clubs according to their brand value are as follows (figures in millions):

1. Bayern Munich €6682. Manchester United €6503. Real Madrid €4824. Barcelona €4445. Chelsea €3256. Arsenal €3197. Liverpool €2808. Manchester City €2579. AC Milan €20410. Borussia Dortmund €20211.
