Can Giroud end the goal drought?

Olivier Giroud, the 26-year-old striker, who was signed by the English club Arsenal in the summer transfer window has not yet scored a single goal in 6 appearances and the club fans are getting frustrated as the goal drought seems to be ever lasting.

The striker silenced his critics after he scored a goal against Coventry in their 6-1 win in the League Cup. But the 26-year-old was again criticized after his poor performance against Chelsea in their 2-1 loss.

Giroud, who earlier played for Ligue 1 club Montpellier and scored 33 goals in 71 appearances for the French side, has not yet been able to satisfy Arsenal fans.

The question that arises now is whether Arsene Wenger should give the striker another chance who has failed to score a single goal in 6 appearances or he should play Theo Walcott as striker who has previously been playing as midfielder in the English club. The 23-year-old midfielder/forward also admitted that his future in Arsenal is partly dependent on whether he is selected as a striker in the future.

“I’ve been judged, with people saying it’s all about money. It’s never been that with me,” replied to the media on being questioned if he wanted to move to another club.

Can Olivier Giroud come over the criticism and score many goals like Thierry Henry who scored his first goal for Arsenal after his 10th appearance?

Players who come to English Premier League from different parts of the world find it difficult to adapt with Premier League standards and tough competitions. Last season, Manchester United signing David De Gea overcame all the criticism and proved himself and had a record of successive clean sheets. Can the Frenchman do the same? Can he overcome all the criticism? Can he prove that he was a good signing for Arsenal in the summer window?

The French striker should try to score more goals. Moreover Arsenal has strong midfielders. Santi Cazarola has been performing extremely well and he has been able to complete many key passes. Theo Walcott can back Giroud too. The 26- year-old striker should try to comprehend the midfielders’ technique, skill and should try to score.

It is time Giroud came out of his shell of nervousness and score many goals. He needs to reach the standards of the ex-Gunners. It might seem impossible for Giroud to score a goal in the tough competition of Premier League but it seems impossible until it’s done. Giroud should perform well like he did against Coventry in the League Cup.
