Chelsea midfielder, Cesc Fabregas, picked his fantasy five-a-side team and he failed to include any of his title-winning Chelsea teammates despite including a former teammate from his time at North London club, Arsenal.
The 28-year-old joined Chelsea at the beginning of last season from home club FC Barcelona and had an immediate impact with his assists and accurate passing. However, when asked to name his five-a-side team, he didn't himself or any of his current teammates.
"In goal, Iker Casillas. In defence, I'll put Gerard Pique," he said picking the first two members of his team. Fabregas spent three seasons at Barcelona alongside Pique whom he also shares the National team dressing room with – same with Real Madrid's Iker Casillas.
Having led the charts in assists last season, Fabregas still went ahead and picked his national teammate in the midfield role by saying, "In midfield I'll choose an attacking midfielder because I like offensive football, so David Silva."
Now that he's sorted out the keeping, defence and midfield, he had two slots left for forwards and this is when he picks his former Arsenal teammate over any of his title-winning Chelsea teammates.
"And up front Thierry Henry and Lionel Messi," he concluded forming possibly one of the most attacking five-a-side teams we've seen in a while. Fabregas played with the little Argentine in his spell at Barcelona and learnt a lot from Thierry Henry, whom he shared the Arsenal dressing room with.
While Chelsea fans might find this a little hard to swallow, it's fair to note that Fabregas joined Arsenal as a 15-year-old and grew up amongst the greats in Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Vieira, Gilberto, Martin Keown and Sol Campbell.
Having suffered a poor season this time around with Chelsea, Fabregas will be hoping the season ends as soon as possible so he can focus on the UEFA Euros and the consequent English Premier League.
