Chelsea captain John Terry thinks he can continue playing football at the very top for another two or three years. The 35-year-old centre-back will be a free agent this summer as his contract at Stamford Bridge ends and his future at the club is still unclear.

Terry had revealed last month that he had not been offered a new deal by the club. He had also made it “very clear” that he wanted to stay at the London club and continue his career.

When asked about a possible extension, he insisted that he was still in good shape to continue playing.

“I'm probably feeling in the last three or four years the best physical condition that I've ever been in,” Terry explained.

“As a youngster you take it for granted; you eat what you want, you can train, have a rest, but when you get older you can't.

“But listen, I've definitely got two or three years left in me, as I said before I would be gutted if it wasn't for Chelsea, and if not it will be somewhere else for sure.”

Playing at another European club is an option: Terry

When he was pressed on where he could end up playing next season, Terry once again reiterated that he wanted to stay at Chelsea. But he was also of the opinion that the decision was not in his hands.

“I want to play at the highest level of course,” Terry said. “ Obviously, for me being Chelsea through and through, and a one-club man, I couldn't play for another Premier League club. I couldn't do that because of the Chelsea fans and what Chelsea means to me.”

On the subject of where else he could play, he said: “We're not sure yet. [Europe] is an option for sure, it's in Chelsea's hands, and as I have said I've made it clear to the club I want to stay.

“That's down to the club. What will be will be. I've had an unbelievable 21 years there. We'll see, only time will tell.

The former England captain also said that a move to a league outside Europe was also a possibility with the American MLS an option apart from cash-rich leagues like the Chinese Super League and Qatar.

“If not, I will be playing. I don't know whether that will be Italy, MLS, China, Qatar, I really don't know at the moment.”
