Rumour: Chelsea keen on Didier Drogba return

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba could be in line for a return to west London, with the Mirror having reported that Drogba is to return to the club in the summer.

Drogba made 226 appearances for Chelsea during his eight year association with the club, before moving to Shanghai in 2012. He has since moved to Turkish side Galatasaray, for whom he featured against Chelsea in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season, but has confirmed that he has played his last match for the Istanbul side.

Chelsea are keen to overhaul their striking department this summer, having seen all three of their forwards last season fail to break double figures in the Premier League. They already look set to sign Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa, but are in the market for multiple forwards as they plan an assault on the Premier League.

36-year-old Drogba would reportedly move to Chelsea as a player, likely to provide back-up to Costa, with a view to progressing to the club’s coaching staff.

He featured in all eight of Galatasaray’s Champions League fixtures last season, scoring twice and making three assists.
