There are a number of players that will feature in the Chelsea first team this season that were on loan last season and will therefore feel like new signings.
These are predominantly younger players like Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku who were sent on loan to gain experience but there is also grissled veteran Michael Essien who will be keen to show that he can still offer something to Mourinho and the Chelsea team.
Romelu Lukaku
Lukaku was a revelation for West Brom last season scoring 17 goals in the Premier League from just 20 starts including a hat-trick against Manchester United.
He matured under Steve Clarke at the Hawthorns rounding some of the edges off his raw talent meaning that he is now a legitimate contender for the first choice striker position at Stamford Bridge.
He will appear unrecognisable from the clumsy forward we saw in the 2011/2012 season and will really feel like a new signing.
Kevin De Bruyne
Signed last summer and immediately loaned to Werder Bremen the midfielder had a great spell away from the Bridge, so much so that his German hosts would have loved to have kept him.
This is not suprising as he chipped in with 10 league goals and nine assists in 33 appearances an impressive return that led to speculation he may be sold on for a profit.
It appears that his form has peaked the interest of Jose Mourinho who has retained him in his squad for the new campaign.
Michael Essien
A veteran from Mourinho’s first stint as Chelsea boss he was loaned to the manager he calls “Daddy” last season and after making 32 appearances for Madrid I would expect him to feature for us next season.
Essien was at his peak one of the greatest midfielders in the world and he is adored by Chelsea fans, injuries may have limited his powers but he is experienced and if he is fit could be an interesting option.
Tomas Kalas
Signed and immediately loaned out under the radar to Dutch side Vitesse, Kalas in a defender that many fans will be a little intrigued by after two years out of the club.
His role may be back up to the first team but he will certainly feel like a new signing.
