EPL 2016/17: Chelsea stars Eden Hazard and Diego Costa have made a player awards pact

Costa and Hazard have contributed immensely to the Chelsea team

Chelsea star attackers Eden Hazard and Diego Costa have made an end-of-season awards pact with each other. The Chelsea pair have vowed to share the Premier League individual awards at the end of the campaign, should they continue to perform consistently.

Both players got on the scoresheet against Manchester City last weekend in Chelsea’s 3-1 win at the Etihad and the Belgium International even joked about competing with the Spaniard for the Golden Boot. Hazard has now scored eight goals this season while Diego Costa is on 11 goals - level with Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez - both of whom are tied at the top of the goal-scoring charts in the Premier League.

The 25-year-old Belgian recently spoke to the media about this pact but said that it’s important for the team to win, “I’ve now got (eight) goals this season. Not bad, eh? But records have never been important for me – I just hope we win the title at the end of the season,” Hazard said.

The Belgian continued, “I have almost as many goals as Diego Costa. If I get the chance to score I won’t pass it up. But I’ve told Diego: ‘Finish the season as the league’s top scorer – then I’ll be named Footballer of the Year!’

He also suggested that the Blues are playing some of the best football they have in recent seasons, “Seriously, we are all in top form. We are playing some terrific football,” he added.

Hazard praises Costa form

The pair have been in lethal form for the Blues this season, involved in more than 62% of Chelsea’s goals this campaign and Hazard even suggested a particular change in Costa’s game as one of the main reasons for his superb form.

“I think this is the big change. Before he was scoring a lot but sometimes got a yellow or red card. Today [against Manchester City] he scored and made an assist. He’s on fire since the start of the season. I want it to continue,” he added.
