Carling Cup Final: Chelsea v Arsenal

Drogba and Mourinho excited ahead of Champions League reunion

Former Chelsea striker, Didier Drogba will face his old club in the last 16 of the Champions League after Galatasaray were drawn with the Blues.

The 35-year-old is widely regarded as one of Chelsea’s all time greats, after helping the Blues to Champions League glory in the 2011-2012 season.

The current Galatasaray forward was openly ecstatic on social media for the chance to return the Bridge.

The veteran said on Instagram: “What a draw… I am the luckiest man in this competition now!

“In both games I will be playing at home. See you in a few months.”

The Ivorian scored a total of 157 goals in 341 appearances for Chelsea and currently sits fourth in the all time top scorers list behind: Frank Lampard, Bobby Tambling and Kerry Dixon.

Drogba won every major honour there was to be won as a Chelsea player and is an obvious fan favourite at the Bridge.

Current Chelsea star, Juan Mata told the Chelsea website: “Didier was obviously a legend here; I can only guess that he would be very excited to come back and play here.

“He did a lot of great things for this club and scored a lot of of very important goals. In fact, he probably scored one of the most important goals in the history of the club.”

Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho was just as pleased as Drogba with the draw, after saying last week he wanted the Drogba reunion for the fans.

The 50-year-old said: “He deserves a reception even better than mine on the opening weekend of the Premier League.

“I know what I felt, and he deserves that. I know Galatasaray is a difficult fixture, but I’d like Didier to be back here and feel what I felt.”

Elsewhere in the draw, Manchester City and Arsenal received nightmare draws in the form of Barcelona and current holders Bayern Munich, respectively.
