Defending champion East Bengal started their CFL Kolkata League title in style as they derailed Eastern Railway by 5-0 in their opening Kolkata League encounter yesterday at Salt lake Stadium. Baljit Singh made a hat trick and Chidi Edeh and Cavin Lobo scored as East Bengal beat Railway in this huge margin.

From the opening minute of the match, East Bengal looked solid and as the match progressed, they took the driving seat. At the half hour mark, East Bengal took a 4-0 lead and was in control of the match. The opening goal came in the 9th minute from Baljit, who in the last season played only some games for the club due to his injury. A stunning header came from Cavin Lobo, who signed for East Bengal in this season, scored in the 25th minute in a cross from Chidi. In the 34th minute, it was again Baljit followed by Chidi in the 38th minute, who took the advantage of jostling of the Railway defenders in the penalty area.

In the second half, it was completely one sided as East Bengal held most of the possession. It looked like that East Bengal was trying some tiki-taka touch in their game. In the 72nd minute, Baljit scored his third goal to complete his hat trick.

East Bengal coach Trevor James Morgan looked extremely happy as his idea of playing in a 4-3-2-1 formation clicked very well. East Bengal will play their second Kolkata League match against Kalighat Milan Sangha on August 25th at Salt lake Stadium.
