El-Hadji Diouf takes his revenge against Gerrard… 5 years later!

The Senegal international and former Liverpool Winger/Striker, El-Hadji Diouf has hit out at the man whom Scousers refer to as their captain fantastic, Steven Gerrard. This came after Gerrard had criticized the current Leeds Striker in 2007 in his autobiography. The Senegalese international in response, claims:

What he said is only of interest to him,” he told. “All I was worried about was the Senegal team; I took them to the World Cup quarter-finals in 2002.

I was in Pele’s 100 players of the century. Not him. I respect him as a footballer, but there is nobody more egotistical than him.”

He does not care about others. I spoke to the major figures at Liverpool and nobody can stand him. And I am not talking about [Jamie] Carragher.”

“He would rather have himself on the scoresheet than team winning.”

Gerrard in his autobiography had criticized Diouf and termed him non-Liverpool material.

I wasn’t Diouf’s number one fan,” Gerrard stated. “Being around Melwood and Anfield, I knew which players were hungry, which players had Liverpool at heart. Diouf was just interested in himself. His attitude was all wrong. I felt he wasn’t really a***d about putting his body on the line to get Liverpool back at the top.”

Diouf certainly didn’t like it and was gutted with his former captain’s remarks. The timing comes as a little shock; 5 years after the incident. Certain questions certainly hit one’s mind:

Where were you for the 5 years? Were you busy finding something against the talismanic skipper?

Calling one of the most respected and one of the finest football players to have graced the game as egoistical and selfish doesn’t seem to go down well with the English fans, and specially the Scousers. Gerrard is the man England, and specially Liverpool, have looked up to whenever they needed inspiration and such defamation is surely not going to be welcomed by the fans. These claims would be strongly opposed and what we have seen and known of the man, he’s the exact opposite of what Diouf claimed.

Gerrard has given his everything for the club and has never missed a single chance where he could do wonders for his club. If Gerrard was in anyway selfish or an egoist, he would have been playing at Real Madrid or Chelsea or some other top European club, given his quality and demand and the money being offered for him; but he chose the club, Liverpool, that is his loyalty and respect for the club.

Gerrard would be the last name that would come to someone’s mind when talking about ego or especially selfishness.Gerrard has given all he could, even more to Liverpool and the fans acknowledge the very same fact.

When I die, don’t take me to the hospital, bring me to Anfield.”

This sounds nowhere close to an egoist’s or a selfish person’s plea; this is what Gerrard has been saying for a long time.

I would love to win a Premier League with Liverpool. It would be much bigger than winning 5-6 with any other club.” And you call this man selfish; this is selflessness personified.

I certainly rubbish these claims and I believe I’ll have no shortage of support.

Breaking News: Sorry Mr. Diouf, you are screwed and universally hated, henceforth…
