EPL Team of the Week

Norwich City v Chelsea - Premier League

In this week’s Barclay’s Premier League fixtures we saw Man City overcome Everton, Chelsea scrape through at Everton, Januzaj rescuing Man United, Arsenal held on at the Hawthorns, Spurs beaten by West Ham,and Liverpool cruising away against Crystal Palace.

Based on this weeks results and performances this is the Barclay’s Premier League Team of the Week.

Manager:

Jose Mourinho (Chelsea)

With Chelsea 1-0 up Mourinho was calm and composed. Later Norwich scored, and a frantic Mourinho made his trademark substitutions to snatch the match away at Carrow road. Eden Hazard came in for Ashley Cole , Schurrle shifted to Left Back and the Belgian made an instant impact scoring a goal to break the stalemate. Then in came Brazilian Willian, in place of Mata and he too scored a brilliant goal to seal three points.

Goalkeeper:

Artur Boruc (Southampton)

A brilliant performance against a good Swansea side keeps Artur Boruc between the posts. The Southampton goalkeeper has emerged through the shadow of regular keeper Gazzaniga to seal a first place for the team.

Defence

Right Back:

Sascha Reither (Fulham)

Two goal line clearances and a formidable defense of his right flank earns Sascha Reither a place in this squad. Reither was brilliant at the left back position for Fulham with two superb goal line clearances helping Fulham to avoid a setback early on in the game.

Centre Back

Winston Reid (West Ham)

Winning against a star studded Spurs lineup at White Hart Lane is surely a great task to achieve, and ‘Big’ Sam Allardayce will be more than happy with the result after a dismal start to the season. Winston Reid marshalled his troops to keep Soldado and Eriksen at bay. A superb performance by Reid and West Ham earned them a deserving three points at White Hart Lane.

Centre Back

Mamadou Sakho (Liverpool)

The tall and sturdy Parisien has had a good start to his Anfield career. With Skrtel and Agger in doubt, Sakho and Man City reject Kolo Toure efficiently managed the backline. Sakho will only improve at Anfield and coach Brendan Rodgers is confident that his defense line will aptly support their deadly striking department.

Left Back

Martin Olsson(Norwich)

He left Ivanovic in his wake whenever he ran through the left flank. Olsson really troubled Chelsea’s defense on his way forward and Chelsea were fortunate to contain him in the latter part of the game with Luiz taking care of Olsson. But it was a very good performance from the former Blackburn Rovers left back

Midfield

Adnan Januzaj (Man United)

Another young player revelation at Old Trafford, Januzaj showed why he is so highly rated with a breakthrough performance against Sunderland. The young Belgian rescued United from a very difficult position going down to Sunderland in just the fifth minute. A great comeback capped by two goals from the brilliant midfielder has eased some pressure on new boss David Moyes.

Sunderland v Manchester United - Premier League

Claudio Yacob (West Brom)

It is very difficult at the moment to expose Arsenal’ s frailties, but West Brom midfielder Claudio Yacob stood out to grant the baggies the lead. The Argentinian’s work rate in the match was phenomenal where he kept in form Ramsey and the brilliant Ozil in check.

Oscar (Chelsea)

He has been performing really well to keep Juan Mata‘s position in jeopardy. The new no 10 of Chelsea as suggested by Mourinho, the Brazilian has dominated the Chelsea midfield with attractive play-making and defensive abilities. A brilliant goal against Norwich at Carrow Road with an assist for Eden Hazard makes Oscar the heart and soul of this team.

David Silva (Man City)

A return well acknowledged by the opposition. David Silva returned in great fashion to spare Man City’s blues against Everton. Man City were left damaged after the loss to Bayern Munich in midweek which Silva missed unfortunately due to injury. Silva combined brilliantly with Toure and Aguero to setup a good win for Man City against a high flying Everton side powered by Chelsea loanee Lukaku.

Striker:

Loic Remy (Newcastle)

No Demba Ba, Not the same Pappis Cisse and Newcastle were left pondering for attacking options for the new season. A failed bid to land Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis, prompted Alan Pardew for a loan deal for QPR forward Loic Remy. And since then Remy has sparkled for Newcastle easing pressure on Pardew. A brace against Cardiff City shows Remy’s prowess, and Newcastle are all guns for the coming matches.

Luis Suarez (Liverpool)

The return of the ‘controversial one’. Suarez arrived and changed the scene at Anfield. In the absence of Suarez Sturridge and Coutinho efficiently managed the striking department. But with Suarez now playing alongside Sturridge the combination has only threatened to explode on the opposition. With a goal and assist against Crystal Palace Suarez rightly earn his place in this team.

Other notable performers of this week Romelu Lukaku (Everton), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Nathan Redmond (Norwich), Yaya Toure (Man City), David Luiz (Chelsea), David De Gea (Man United).
