Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has welcomed the possible arrival of Spanish international team-mate Cesc Fabregas, admitting he is relishing the prospect of playing alongside him in club football.

Fabregas is highly-sought after, after Barcelona, with whom he won the Champions League in 2011, admitted that the Spanish international was available on the transfer market. Manchester United and Arsenal had been heavy favourites to land the former Gunner, but Arsenal are believed to also have a clause in their former captain’s contract which allows them to have first pick on the central-midfielder.

However, reports emerged on Wednesday that Fabregas had undergone a Chelsea medical and he was set to join the west London club.

Torres admits whether it is Cesc Fabregas or Diego Costa, or even both, he is looking forward to teaming up with good players next season and is eagerly anticipating next season already.

He told reporters: “Big players are always good signings. We know Cesc, he knows the division and was always among the top players when he was at Arsenal.

“He likes to play good football and will offer ball control, cutting edge, goals. If he’s made to feel important, like a leader – like when he was at Arsenal – he can drive the team on and he’s a type of player Chelsea don’t have right now.”
