FIFA World rankings: Argentina rise to second spot, England drop to 17th as Spain remain numero uno

Spain hold on to the first spot

Spain, the reigning World and European champions, are the only team to have managed to retain their position in the top ten, as the numero uno, in the most recent FIFA/Coca-Cola World rankings released on Thursday (12th of September, 2013).

Argentina, who have successfully booked a berth in the 2014 FIFA World Cup to be held in Brazil and on a rich run of form of late, dispossessed Germany of their second spot. Uruguay moved five places to reach the seventh position while Portugal dropped to eleventh spot.

England, meanwhile, have plummeted to the 17th spot which leaves them in the danger of being placed in the third pot, should they qualify for the World Cup.

Belgium, yet to be defeated in their Brazil 2014 qualifying campaign, matched their best ever ranking of sixth. All matches played until 10th of September have been taken into consideration while finalising the FIFA/Coca-Cola World rankings.
