Manchester City playmaker Samir Nasri has reportedly taken a decision over his future in international football, but says it will be announced “when the time is right”.

The Frenchman found his name missing when the 23-man French squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup was announced by Didier Deschamps.

Nasri was deemed a luxury rather than necessity by Deschamps in spite of the fact that Nasri arguably had his best season at Manchester City last season. His seven goals and seven assists in 29 games for the Citizens proved vital as they went on to re-capture the Premier League title.

However, it was widely believed in France that Nasri was left out of the squad because of his alleged disruptive attitude. Those claims were further upheld when Deschamps declared just before the World Cup: “I built the best squad, I did not pick the 23 best French players.”

It was an easy decision to make: Nasri

Talking to Sky Sports, the Frenchman said: “I made it (the decision) a while ago but I will announce it when the time is right.”

“With the national team I didn’t win anything. So it’s more easy to take this decision than if we’d just won something. When you play for a big club, and you play lots of games, it’s easy to come to this decision.”

These words were the strongest indications yet that the Frenchman was about to call time on his involvement with Les Bleus. Nasri added that he was more worried about his family who had to read various scathing articles on him following his exclusion for the side.

The midfielder’s wife was certainly less than amused at the decision and took to social networking site, Twitter to vent her anger on French coach Dider Deschamps.

“National team doesn’t make me happy.”

“Even before the summer, during Euro 2012 I had a lot going on,” he said.

“Personally, it doesn’t affect me but it affects my family. They live in France, they read the press stuff. I live in England so I’m fine with everything they say and I’m used to it but for my parents it’s really hard. I want to make them happy and the national team doesn’t make me happy.”

Nasri has been capped 41 times by Les Bleus, scoring 5 goals. His last appearance for his country came in Novermber last year in France’s 2-0 defeat by Ukraine in the first leg of their World Cup qualification play-off.
