"I chased a dream and I'm so happy the dream has now been fulfilled" - Robin van Persie on EPL title win

Robin van Persie

Manchester United‘s Premier League hero Robin van Persie has been on cloud nine since his side managed to win the title this season. The Dutch forward had been waiting for this moment for nine years and finally he got the feel of glory.

He toiled hard for eight years at the Emirates but all in vain. The success finally came to him at Old Trafford. He was elemental in United’s title win this season, scoring a total of 24 goals for them.

Van Persie said, “That’s why I sacrificed so much to come here. I chased a dream and I’m so happy the dream has now been fulfilled. I still can’t believe it. It’s just an incredible feeling. It is also a massive relief — after all this time, to be lucky enough to win a title in one of the hardest leagues in the world.”

His hat-trick in the last game against Aston Villa made sure that they don’t push for a title win in their match against his former club Arsenal on Sunday.

On being asked whether he was relieved that the scenario of them winning the title at his previous home ground is removed, he replied, “I am so glad we’ve won the title, full stop. The earlier you can win it, the better — and it was really nice to win it at home in front of our own fans.”

On being asked about his courageous decision of moving to Old Trafford from the Emirates, he said, “My move to Manchester United was all about timing. We met each other at exactly the right time. They were so eager to win the Premier League title back. And I was so eager to win the league for the first time.”

Talking about the two games that were vital to United’s success apart from his goals, he said, “For sure, the away game against Manchester City was a massive, massive victory and a vital one. But the one two weeks ago against Stoke City away was huge, too.”

He followed, “Quite simply, I now want to win as much as possible. Now (that) I’ve won one big prize, I’m even more eager to win more, even more eager to win it all. Next season I have the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, Capital One Cup, Community Shield and of course the World Cup to focus on.”

Sir Alex Ferguson is reported to be spending around £100m on summer recruits next season. On being asked if he was concerned over his position in the team on the arrival of some new players, he said, “The more quality players we bring, the better. And even more fun. I trust his judgement. The manager knows what is good for the team.”

On the similarities between his previous boss Arsene Wenger and his present boss Alex Ferguson, he added, “They are both passionate men who are extremely professional, determined and dedicated to developing the best out of their players. So I have been very lucky.”

He concluded, “I have only played under him (Sir Alex Ferguson) for one year and it has been an incredible experience in so many ways. Ryan is remarkable. I really hope that I will be able to play on until my 40s — preferably my 50s. I love the game that much, it’s my life and my passion.”
