Inter Milan News: Malaga Table Bid For Defender Lucio

Cash rich La Liga side Malaga have lodged a bid for Inter defender Lucio, according to his agent. The agent seemed interested in the bid and left the door open for a possible transfer to take place, although he said Lucio will take stock of the situation after the Copa America tournament.

Malaga interest for Lucio

The agent, Sandro Becker, spoke to Goal.com Italy and said-

“We received an offer from Malaga, which everyone is aware of. Lucio wants to play at a high level in a top European league,”

Malaga, who finished in the eleventh position last year in La Liga, seem like a very ambitious and aggressive outfit this transfer period, their completed signings and bids for elite players like Lucio being enough evidence of the fact. They have already made a double raid from German club Hamburg, securing the services of Joris Mathijsen and Ruud van Nistelrooy. The defensive nous of Mathijsen coupled with the attacking prowess and poaching ability of van Nistelrooy are sure to aid Malaga next season.

In addition to the Dutch duo mentioned above, they have also procured Lyon midfielder Jeremy Toulalan. The hard-tackling, combative midfielder is very much needed in Malaga’s game.

And the signing of Lucio, if completed, would represent another major coup. The Brazilian has been a revelation since arriving at Inter from Bayern Munich after Luis Van Gaal surprisingly let him leave on a free transfer. He captained the team to a historic treble under Jose Mourinho and multiple Scudettos. He was also appointed captain of the Brazilian National Team and they won the Confederations Cup under his tenure.

He was a mainstay in the Inter defence last season as well, making 31 appearances in the Serie A and being a beast at the back almost throughout. Malaga can look optimistically towards a march up the table if Lucio joins their ranks.

But, as is understandable with players of Lucio’s impeccable reputation and stellar talent, many clubs are interested in him. His agent is therefore waiting for the Copa America tournament to finish before taking any decision about Lucio’s future. He said-

“He is a great player and there are so many big clubs who are interested in him. For now I am doing everything I can and I will show him what the situation is after the Copa America.”

It will be interesting to see if Malaga are able to snare another of Europe’s top names and move from strength to strength in the transfer window or not. We will keep you updated.
