Jose Mourinho unimpressed with Chelsea players and fans alike; practices half-time shock therapy

The Grumpy One: Chelsea's Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho reacts on the touchline during the match between Chelsea and Queens Parks Rangers.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was far from being happy after his team’s 2-1 win over Queen Park Rangers. The Stamford Bridge club is leading the Premier League with an unbeaten streak of 15 matches in all competitions this season.

However, Mourinho was not pleased with his team’s performance and also blasted the crowd by describing the match atmosphere as 'like playing in an empty stadium'. When asked about the hurt his comments have generated, Mourinho reiterated his stand on Sunday: “When comparing my previous time I think it’s getting worse.”

“I don’t question the passion and the love – I’m nobody to question that and I know that’s clearly not true. Chelsea fans show us their passion for this club every day, but there is a certain line of living [way of behaving] at the matches at Stamford Bridge. I can clearly say we are a team to get less support in home matches.”

Shock-therapy at Half-time

Chelsea led their West London rivals with a lovely opening goal by Oscar. Mirror Football reported that Chelsea and Brazilian footballer Willian revealed how dissatisfied the Portuguese coach was at the interval and blasted the players for not playing well enough.

“At half-time he was frustrated and told us so,...He was not happy and told us we hadn’t played well and had to do better...It was dangerous for us, to be only 1-0 up. So we had to improve. And he was right because even then QPR came on to the pitch for the second half and scored their goal to get level.”

“But at least we reacted. We had to. We had to run more, keep the ball better, get at them more”, he concluded.

The reaction by the “Chosen One” was maybe to make his players get out of their comfort zones and finish off the game without dallying for long. Mourinho has been known to play managerial mind-games with his own players as well as rival managers.

Mourinho wants more consistency and more clinical performance

Chelsea had several good chances which they failed to capitalize upon before the 23-year-old Brazilian got hold of Cesc Fabregas’s pass and netted with a glorious shot with the outside of his right foot. As for Mourinho, he only frowned. But after repeatedly missing chances, Chelsea were struck by a back heel goal from Charlie Austin and QPR equalized.

Eden Hazard found the winner after Eduardo Vargas jostled him down, which didn’t please QPR coach Harry Redknapp much. The Belgian international got up and stuck home the penalty. If it would not have been for QPR goalkeeper Robert Green’s saves, the score would have been much harder for the Rangers.

After the match the Chelsea coach remained unimpressed and said,“We have to be more consistent and play better.”

Yes, the week was very strange. You play Manchester United on the Sunday, on the Monday you travel...Some of the players had two days off. Some of the others had to go to Shrewsbury immediately. Some of them in Shrewsbury played 90 minutes. Some had a free day the next day but it was a working day for the others.”

‘’So it was a very strange week to work and be focused. We tried, but the individual performances weren’t there and neither was the collective performance. Do QPR have some responsibility for that? I think they do. You have to give credit to a team that comes and is so well organised from a defensive point of view like they were.

“In the end we deserved to win. The result could’ve been more. It’s important to win when you don’t play so well.”

In spite of Mourinho accusing his team of not playing to their potential, he showered praises for the best player of the match for Chelsea, Oscar, and added – “Oscar was our best player, always sharp and fast, bringing balance and creativity.’’
