Jurgen Klopp hints at teaming up with Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski at Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp signed Robert Lewandowski from Lech Poznan in 2010

New Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed his desire to reunite with Polish goal machine Robert Lewandowski at Anfield, as per the reports in The Mirror. Lewandowski’s agent has hinted that his client’s future will not be at the Allianz Arena and Klopp is ready to make a play to tempt him to Anfield.

The Bayern striker is currently a man on fire in this calendar year, having scored 14 goals in his past 5 games – including a brace in Poland’s Euro qualifiers against Scotland. Lewandowski is in the form of his life in his second season with the Bavarians and it is not surprising that his former manager Klopp is ready to sanction a move for him if he gets any indication that Bayern will sell.

The 48-year-old has admitted that seeing the rapid rise of Lewandowski has given him most satisfaction as a coach. “The biggest satisfaction you can get is when you take a player from Poland, from a small club and watch him play like he does today,” he said.

“The difference between that player we signed and the player he is today is unbelievable.”

Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers bolstered his attacking force by adding £32.5 million Christian Benteke from Aston Villa during the summer. The Merseyside club already have a number of attacking talents in their squad including Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings and Divock Origi while Mario Balotelli is out on loan at AC Milan.

Despite the availability of all of these players, Klopp is still tempted to add Lewandowski to his squad. The German signed the striker from Lech Poznan in 2010 after a move to Blackburn fell through after the player’s flight to England was cancelled following a volcanic eruption in Iceland.

The Poland international has become one of the most lethal strikers in Europe and a hero at Westfalenstadion under the guidance of Klopp. However, his reputation was soured with the club when he allowed his contract to expire just so he could join bitter rivals Bayern in 2014.

Guardiola remains unconvinced by Lewandowski’s current form

The Bayern striker is one out of the players to have scored 5 goals in a match among the top competitive leagues in Europe while Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Aguero have also scored 5 goals in a game this season. Lewandowski has been in sensational form for the Bavarians this season, however, there have been reports that Bayern boss Pep Guardiola remains unconvinced.

In recent weeks, there have been suggestions that a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona could be an option for Lewandowski, but neither clubs are in the market for a striker and Klopp’s arrival at Liverpool could be crucial in luring the striker to join him at Anfield.
