Kolo Toure wants Liverpool in the Champions League

Manchester City FC v Sporting Lisbon - UEFA Europa League Round of 16

Kolo Toure the 32-year old defender from Ivory Coast, wants Liverpool to make it to the Champions League this coming season. He has signed a two year contract with Liverpool after his contract with Manchester City expired at the end of last season.

“We want to win trophies, but we want to play in the Champions League as well,” he said.

“This club is a winning club. I want to be part of history here.”

Though it is believed that it may not be realistic for Liverpool to qualify for the Champions League, Toure thinks otherwise. He said that he believed in the squad that they have, and the history, quality, and mentality of the players.

Toure will be replacing Jamie Carragher, who has been a valuable central defender for England and Liverpool. His enthusiasm to get back to playing can well be understood as he had missed out on Manchester City’s 2011 FA cup success, because of a six months suspension following a failed drug test.

“It is an honour to play for Liverpool. This club is unbelievable. I’ve been here for two weeks and I’ve seen a lot of fantastic things” he said signing off.

This is going to be massive for Toure and only time will say if he can be a part of Anfield ‘history’.
