Manchester City looking to extend contracts of Pablo Zabaleta and Micah Richards

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak has his sights set on the future

In a move to keep their top players at the club, Manchester City are planning new deals for defenders Zabaleta and Richards.

Chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak said that he hoped to hear positive news on the contract extension talks. City are said to be looking to consolidate their main players after experienced defender Kolo Toure agreed to join Liverpool on a free transfer and rumours ripe about the exit of Maicon.

Having penned new long term deals with key men Yaya Toure and David Silva, Al-Mubarak considers it important to keep the core of the squad intact.

“There are other players coming soon – Zabaleta, Micah Richards,” Al-Mubarak told the club’s official website.

“We’ll make sure these players stay part of the future at City because they are really the core of this team.

“As much as we need to continue to invest in this team we also need to invest in the core foundation of the team, which is these players.”
