Nemanja Vidic

It seems nothing is going Manchester United’s way these days. Captain Nemanja Vidic is set to quit Old Trafford in the summer after his agent has revealed he won’t be signing a new contract.Vidic’s current deal with the Red Devils ends in the summer and negotiations over a new deals have been stalled with Italian giants Fiorentina, AC Milan and Napoli all looking for the Serbian’s signature.

His agent Silvano Martina said: “At the moment, I would rule out an extension with Manchester United.‘Vidic, given his contract situation, has several teams looking at him.

“Vidic is a very good player and will have no trouble finding a new club. For the time being we are remaining calm. At the moment there has been no contact (with Napoli) but they are one of the best clubs in Europe.”

Manchester United only tend to offer a one-year deal to players in their 30s; like the case of Michael Carrick who was offered a one year extension in November. Vidic, 32 though is looking for a longer contract which United are unwilling to offer with fears over his knee injuries which have seen the Serb sidelined for long periods in recent seasons.

Eliaquim Mangala, FC Porto’s center back who can also cover both the full-back positions is reportedly lined up by United as a replacement for the outgoing Serb.

Rio Ferdinand, another stalwart responsible for United’s success is looking at an end to his term, with possible retirement at the end of the season. Rio has only managed 13 appearances for United so far this season and limped off in United’s recent 2-1 loss in FA Cup at the hands of Swansea at Old Trafford.
