Supercomputer predicts Liverpool and Manchester United's position amidst top 4 race

As per FiveThirtyEight supercomputer, Liverpool are set to finish fifth in the Premier League table this season, behind Manchester United and Newcastle United.

While the Reds have had an underwhelming season, they have recently pulled themselves together brilliantly. They have won all of their last seven games in the league, putting them right in the mix for a top-four spot.

Liverpool are currently fifth, one point behind fourth-placed Manchester United, who have a game in hand. Newcastle, meanwhile, are third, four points above them.

As per the FiveThirtyEight supercomputer (via Echo), Manchester United are expected to finish third with 72 points, Newcastle fourth with 71 points, and the Merseysiders fifth with 69 points.

The supercomputer has predicted Jurgen Klopp's side to win one and draw one of their remaining two games against Aston Villa and Southampton. Newcastle are set to face Leicester City and Chelsea in their remaining games, while Manchester United will face Bournemouth, Chelsea, and Fulham.

As per the supercomputer, Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur will finish sixth and seventh with 64 and 60 points respectively.

A fifth-placed finish will mean Liverpool will compete in the UEFA Europa League next season.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on Top 4 race against Manchester United

Jurgen Klopp's side are set to host Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday, May 20. Ahead of the game, the German manager was asked about his hopes of finishing in the top four.

He explained that all Liverpool can do is win their games and see if it helps them get into the top four based on other results. Klopp said (via Liverpoolfc.com):

"There’s no problem. I never hope, I never had hope for that, I don’t need that. I know that we have to win all the football games and then there’s maybe a chance. A big maybe, but that’s all. I watched the game [Newcastle United’s win over Brighton & Hove Albion] last night but I didn’t watch it and thought when they scored goals and stuff like this that I was disappointed..."

He added:

"It’s not in our hands, whatever they get they deserve, easy as that. So we have to do our job and then we will see what that means. But my hope is not big or lesser than before, because I never had."

Liverpool come into the Aston Villa game on the back of a 3-0 win over Leicester City. Villa, meanwhile, beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at home in their previous game.
