The prestigious Geno Sports Awards function organized by The Sports Journalists Association of Goa was held at a starred hotel in Panjim yesterday, October 12.
The Awards recognize sporting achievements in eight different categories and below are the winners of the 17th edition of the Geno Sports Awards.
1. Best Team – Churchill Brothers SC (Champions of the I League 2012-13)2. Best Coach – Mariano Dias (Head Coach, Churchill Brothers)3. Best Sportman – Aalhad Thati (State Diving Champion)4. Best Sportswoman – Ms. Akanksha Salunkhe (Squash Champion)5. Best Upcoming Sportsman – Rishabh Naik (Chess)6. Best Upcoming Sportswoman – Ms. Urmila Mense (Table Tennis)7. Best College For Sports- St. Xaviers Mapusa8. Best School – Don Bosco Panjim
Ms. Valanka Alemao, the CEO of Churchill Brothers SC, thanked The Sports Journalists Association of Goa along with Geno Pharmaceuticals for recognizing the hard work put in by the team in winning the I-League and insuring that the trophy remained in Goa.
“It feels really good getting this award but at the same time, we really have to work hard to keep up to the expectations of being the champions of India.”
Head Coach Mariano Dias along with Indian Internationals Lenny Rodrigues and Denzil Franco were also present at the awards gala.
