Pride of London - Chelsea above the rest

As the proud neighbours are plunged into turmoil, the Chelsea fans sit back and chuckle. They said London was red but never once saw their Fulham neighbours. The battle to be the Pride of London has been fought many a time, with knights in shining armour taking centre stage and the noisy crowd making sure their opinions are heard. But now is the moment that the Chelsea faithful know that London’s honour can be protected only by the ones who make sure their own honour and pride is kept intact in the darkest of times.

Pity – that’s all you can feel for Arsenal. With all the hunger that we have to get one over them, there comes a time of the year when we pity our red neighbours. They called the Chelsea players rent boys. Ones who would leave when the oil fields were barren, but the crude irony today is they can’t even keep their own captain for more than a few seasons for not “moving forward the right way”. When he scored three against us at the Bridge, we hurled the worst of wishes on him. Made sure he knew our thoughts and how we were frustrated with the recent happenings. But never did we foresee that he would move away from the Emirates and don the shirt that has lifted a record 19 Premierships and an elusive 20th in the dreams of many United supporters.

Manchester United are now indeed the team to beat with the addition of van Persie . You can only wonder what goes through the Scotsman’s mind as he made his first marquee signing when he needed players at other vital positions. But nevertheless the fans are delighted. Not because RVP moved to Old Trafford but because they can now face their friends supporting Arsenal and ask them “How’s life?” with a twinkle in their eye and a snicker of delight.

Have the Chelsea players ever left because they never won anything? Well that’s not happening because Chelsea have won something or the other since Abramovich took charge of our finances. Maybe just 1 or 2 seasons went without winning anything. But what angered me the most since RVP decided to leave, is how dare they call our players rent boys when their own players have left their teams regularly for money or trophies? Agreed, Arsene Wenger has moulded world class players but with that he even imbibed another quality in them – greed. Hunger to win is one thing and greed for a fatter pay check is another. Fabregas would have left for emotional purposes to rejoin his boyhood club whereas Nasri and Clichy have left for both hunger and greed. But RVP is a curious case, a case which cannot be judged until he scores his first goal for the Reds. The expression on his face will decide how he feels. If it’s the same as the one he had with the gunners, then my sympathies to the Arsenal fans. Greed has taken over him. But if it in fact is different, then he is missing the grass at the Emirates and even if it always looks greener on the other side, he misses the pride he felt when he wore the Arsenal shirt.

Chelsea fans have nothing to worry. But if we see it as a whole, it’s time we protected the status of London in England. We are turning into a joke. Chelsea with their manager problems, Arsenal with their player and winning problems and Tottenham with problems everywhere. But this season has to be different. When you see someone mock Arsenal, make sure they know where your faith lies. London before club. Sure, many of you still are skeptic about supporting London before Chelsea. But think about it if someone mocks London and a club in London, they inadvertently mock us. With West Ham joining our ranks, let’s join our forces together but at the same time don’t forget – Chelsea is, at this time, the Pride of London.
