Karim Benzema of Real Madrid celebrates his goal during the friendly match between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain FC at the Ullevi Stadium on July 27, 2013 in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Karim Benzema scored the lone goal last night as Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid defeated his former club Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in a pre-season friendly played at Gothenburg.

Playing in front of 45,000 fans, Ancelotti saw his team control the match on their way to victory.

The goal served as a big morale boost for Frenchman Karim Benzema, who had been struggling with his form throughout last season.

“We were lacking something tonight and are still struggling for fitness. It’s always going to be difficult to play against a world class team like Real Madrid but we hope to be ready for the match against Bordeaux next week,” said PSG goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu.

Argentina international Ezequiel Levezzi came close with an equalizer just six minutes before half-time, but failed to capitalise.
