What’s the story?
Legendary Real Madrid manager and current Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti has been linked with a sensational move to manage Barcelona once Luis Enrique leaves in the summer. According to reports in Germany, the 57-year-old is set to be axed by the Bavarians after a poor first season at the helm of the Allianz Arena outfit.
Bayern Munich are currently favorites to win the Bundesliga and find themselves 8 points ahead of second placed RB Leipzig. However, they have been knocked out of both the UEFA Champions League and DFB Pokal in the space of two weeks to Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund respectively and this has led to speculation regarding his future in Germany post this season.

Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has already decided not to renew his contract with the Camp Nou outfit and is set to leave the club in the summer. His final season at the helm of the Catalan giants has been a massive disappointment with the Blaugrana already knocked out of the UEFA Champions League and barring a miracle they are also set to miss out on the league title.
The only saving grace for Barcelona in a dismal season will be if they win the Copa del Rey, with the Catalans set to take on Alaves in the final of the domestic tournament.
The heart of the matter
Carlo Ancelotti was at the helm of Real Madrid between 2013 and 2015 and during this period guided Los Blancos to 4 trophies, including the La Decima triumph over Atletico Madrid in the final of the 2014 edition of UEFA Champions League.
If Barcelona are able to pull off a deal to sign Ancelotti it would ruffle a few feathers for sure, given his history with their arch-rivals in the past.

What’s next?
Both Bayern Munich and Barcelona will try and focus on the end of the season. The two teams have the opportunity to end the season on a high, with the league almost won for the Bavarians and in touching distance for the Catalans.
The Camp Nou outfit have already confirmed that they will only announce the appointment of a new manager at the end of the current season and we will have to wait until then to find out if Ancelotti does actually move to Spain, once again.

The appointment of Ancelotti as the manager of Barcelona will not go down well with the Real Madrid players and fans. It will be a controversial appointment, to say the least, but one in the best interest of the Catalan club – who have not had a world-class manager since the departure of Pep Guardiola, almost 5 years ago.
