While there is a bidding war going on between Arsenal and Chelsea over Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney, Tony Adams fears that Rooney will have to struggle to cope up with life in the capital.

Adams has warned Rooney, who makes the headlines more often than not for his off the pitch antics, that he will be the publicly scrutinized even more if he makes the move to London.

The Arsenal legend, who himself was caught in an ugly and much publicized battle with alcoholism during his 19-year career at Arsenal, knows all too well about what the negative spotlight can do to you.

“I’m not sure Wayne Rooney could handle London, to be completely honest.”

“I don’t think it’s a question of finances. I think it’s his temperament and mentality. London is a different animal and it takes a different type of player,” said the 46-year-old Arsenal legend.

“I know Sir Alex Ferguson has dealt with Wayne brilliantly over the last few years and I’m sure Arsene Wenger can handle him, but I’m not sure. I wouldn’t like to spend my money on Wayne,” added Adams.

Adams, besides Rooney, has reserved his doubts about another player as well- Gonzalo Higuain. This Real Madrid player is a £20million target for the Gunners.

But Adams openly revealed his fears, saying: “My fear is that if Real don’t want him, you are coming in under that.

“If you want to compete with Real Madrid you don’t get their cast-offs. You need the best players in the league to win the league.”

Recently, Adams, who has four top-flight titles to his credit, has offered Arsenal help to end their trophy draught as it will be a whole decade without success if Arsene Wneger fails to win a major trophy next season.
