Swansea Manager Michael Laudrup looks at signing extension, while disappointing giants

Stoke City v Swansea City - Premier League

Michael Laudrup is a wanted man among Europe’s top clubs. But it seems like they are going to be disappointed with Michael’s decision to stay with Swansea. Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal are few of the many that were looking forward to having him on board, especially after he held up the Capital One Cup last Sunday.

Huw Jenkins, Swansea chairman, however, is intent on Laudrup’s being in charge at the Liberty Stadium next season.

“With us doing well and him (Laudrup) being a past player and a fantastic one for Real Madrid it is natural he will be linked with them. But Michael has stated he would honour his contract and we are looking a year ahead already. Personally I have no issue about the thought of him not being here next season.”

With his contract coming to an end next season, Jenkins also revealed that the 48-year-old is also considering signing a 12-month extension, helping Swansea with a financial reward if/when he finally decides to move on.

“We’ve got security in place now as his current two-year deal finishes next summer. We’ve got a period of time to make sure we have more security on that, but that’s something over the next few weeks we’ll have to speed up a bit and talk a bit further.”

Bayram Tutumlu, Michael Laudrup’s agent, said that plans are in place for the extension and it is very likely to materialize.

“There will be no problems about the extension. We have a very good relationship with chairman Huw Jenkins and negotiations take place in a positive spirit. The club has expressed a desire to extend and Michael is very happy at the club – it’s not complicated. But, right now, we will enjoy the triumph and then we’ll find the time in the coming weeks to finish things.”
