The Inter Milan Crisis - 5 signings to plug the hole

There has been a sense of deja vu around the Appiano Gentile for the past 18 months. After lifting the Champions League in Mourinho’s present team’s homeg round, it has been a downward spiral for the Interesti, who were managed by 3 different coaches in the past season and a half.Massimo Moratti promises to replenish the squad come January. Five names that could help Inter out of their crisis, would be :

1) JAVIER MASCHERANO :Since Mourinho left Inter, their engine room has been malfunctioning consistently. The only midfielder to have retained his form and consistency has been Esteban Cambiasso. Javier Zanetti has been doing a good job alongside Cambiasso, but Inter do need a new face to partner Cambiasso, as Zanetti is not getting any younger. Javier Mascherano would be the best option for this position. Firstly, he would come at a cheap price, which is a very important factor for Moratti since he has been on a cost-cutting spree of late. Secondly, Mascherano’s versitality would do the wonders for the ailing blue half of the San Siro. Mascherano’s discipline would also stem the stream of goals that Inter seem to concede every now and then.

The ideal partner to Cambiasso?

2)MATS HUMMELS :One of the main reasons for the decline of the Nerazzuri has been the fall of the defensive wall, ‘Lucio-Samuel’ which was so integral to the treble winning side of 2009. Since the fall of August 2010, there have not been many games in which the duo have played in tandem, and the rare occasions on which they have, the result has been disappointing. With the decline of the once formidable Ivan Cordoba, the non-existence of Materazzi and the error prone duo of Rannochia and Chivu, it is about time that the black hole in defence, that is eating up the entire team is now covered. Mats Hummels, considered to be the best defensive talent since Franz Beckenbauer himself, would prefectly fit the bill. But, it would not be easy to bring the Bavaria born man to Milan, since FC Barcelona and Chelsea are also among the list of his potential suitors and secondly, the transfer fee commanded by Dortmund would also be on the high end for Marco Branca & Co.

One to fill the defensive hole?

3)CARLOS TEVEZ :Inter’s front line has never been the same since Samuel Eto’o left for ‘greener’ pastures in Russia. Diego Milito has had a free fall from the highs of the 2009-10 season, to the lows of the 2010-11 season, in which he scored just 8 goals from the 32 times he wore the Inter shirt. Giampaolo Pazzini has shown what he is capable of, but not consistently. Summer signings Diego Forlan and Mauro Zarate have also failed to leave an indelible impression. Thus, the signing of Carlos Tevez would be the perfect way to resolve matters. Tevez wants a move on from his complicated relationship with Manchester. By coming to Milan, Tevez would come much closer to his family and would have LOTS to do in the glitz and glamour of the Fashion Capital of Italy. Inter surely would be able to match the Euros 44Million price tag and thus would have to settle on a loan deal for the Argentinian.

Destination Milan come January?

4)ANDREAS BECK :The right back position for the Nerazzuri has been a comedy circus of late. Branca brought in Jonathan from Santos during the summer as cover for the injury prone and declining Maicon, but it has not worked at all. While Maicon enjoys his free fall from prominence to absurdity, Jonathan has not been able to grab hold of the vacant spot at the Appiano Gentile. Andreas Beck from 1899 Hoffenheim could be the long term solution to the much maligned spot. He was an alleged target for Inter’s rivals from Turin, Juventus. Beck has been a consistent performer in the Bundesliga, and it is about time, that he moved on from a single-screen to a multiplex. Plus, he would also not away a significant portion of the transfer cake. Bargain buy, Indeed.

Answer to the right-back spot?

5)EDEN HAZARD :Ricardo Alvarez from Verez Saresfield was bought in during May to be the ideal backup for Dutch maestro Wesley Sneijder. But, so far, it has turned out to be a nightmare for the Argentinian. His lack of pace have left him wanting on numerous times. With Wes not finding his purple patch for sometime now, and the constant and menacing injuries troubling him(not to add the transfer saga to Old Trafford), it is about time Inter sign a new trequista in the form of Lille star Eden Hazard, who has confirmed that he will be leaving the Metrople come May 2012. A series of add-ons along with a hefty Euros 30Million, could just tempt Lille to sell their most coveted asset.
