5. Frank Lampard - 23 chances created

Frank Lampard

Chance creation is amongst one of the most valuable assets an attacking player must have in the modern game and Chelsea have that in abundance. Eden Hazard, Oscar, Willian, Juan Mata and Ramires are just some of the players that can create chances at will for the Blues, and it is that reason why they’re pushing Manchester City and Arsenal for the Premier League title.

Jose Mourinho has a plethora of attacking talent to call upon, but which five players have created the most chances for Chelsea this season?

5. Frank Lampard – 23 chances created

Lampard has always been in or around the more creative players’ lists as he ‘s always been an attacking central midfielder. This season is no different, either, as just four players at Chelsea have created more chances than him.

Lampard has also assisted three goals, which is a decent figure. His best match, in terms of chance creation, was the 3-0 victory at Upton Park in late-November when he completed four key passes to add to his two goals on the night.

The Englishman continues to be an important figure for the club and a good creative industry behind the main attacking players.

4. Ramires – 24 chances created

Ramires has created 24 chances in 21 games this season. His figures include two assists which, when you consider that he is playing in a slightly deeper role nowadays, is actually quite good. He gets forward as much as he can, Ramires, but the four main attacking players in Mourinho’s system often control the emphasis of attack beyond the midfield areas.

To create that many chances from a deep role is quite good considering the focus is on getting the ball into the feet of the attacking midfielders, who then are allowed to create from inside the final third of the pitch.

His most creative display was against Everton when the Toffees beat the Londoners 1-0 at Goodison Park. Ramires created four chances.

Oscar Ramires

3. Oscar – 24 chances created

Joint with Ramires on 24 chances, Oscar’s figure is slightly surprising considering Mourinho favours the little Brazilian in favour of Juan Mata, who is set to leave the club at some point this season.

He, too, has two assists to his name and the highest number of chances he’s created in a game is three. He has done this on three separate occasions in wins over Hull City, Fulham and West Ham United.

Juan Mata

2. Juan Mata – 30 chances created

What may come as a surprise to many is to see Mata so high up considering he’s only featured in 13 Premier League games, starting 11 of them.

His 30 chances are a sublime figure when you consider he’s completed just two full matches in the league this season. If you add the speculation surrounding his future to the situation then it becomes an even better statistic. He is averaging 2.3 key passes per game which is the same figure as the man who tops this list.

Mata, like Ramires and Oscar, has two assists to his name.

His lack of defensive work-rate is said to be the main reason why Mourinho won’t give him a proper chance in his sidebut one wonders why when he’s one of the most creative attacking midfielders in world football.

1. Eden Hazard – 52 chances created

 Eden Hazard

Eden Hazard

Chelsea’s key man this season and the player likely to be the one that brings the Premier League trophy back to Stamford Bridge. Hazard has not only created the most chances at Chelsea, but he’s the highest creator in the whole division.

The Belgian has been fantastic for the Blues this season and looks like he’s being moulded into a world class attacking midfielder by Mourinho.

He has assisted five goals, too, which just adds to his sublime figure. Hazard is the key to Chelsea retaining the titleand if he carries on in this vein of form, creating chances at will, the Blues have a great chance of finishing top in May.
