UEFA, the European football governing body, has confirmed that the winners of Europa league, the second tier European competition, will be granted direct qualification for the UEFA Champions League from 2015 onwards.
This is an opportunity for the second tier clubs in Europe to compete in the biggest club tournament in Europe. The first club to exploit this opportunity will be the winner of the Europa league 2014-2015 edition, after which they will earn the chance to compete with the best clubs throughout Europe in the 2015-2016 edition of the Champions League.
