Louis Van Gaal doesn't want to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic because of his age

Too old
Zlatan too old for Van Gaal’s team?

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has confirmed he will be leaving Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season. The Big Swede has consistently been one of the best strikers in the world and is still banging the goals in at this late age.

The striker has created a lot of buzz recently after his announcement to not renew his contract as several bug clubs from England are after his signature and even more so because he would be a free agent. Zlatan himself admitted that he has received offers from clubs in the UK.

Manchester United have been one of those big clubs who have been linked with the striker. The Red Devils have struggled for goals this season with Wayne Rooney not firing on all cylinders and Martial and Rashford still just youngsters to try and shoulder the burden themselves.

With Zlatan still looking sharper than ever it seems like an ideal move but Van Gaal has dropped a big hint that he is unlikely to sign to him and this is why: “We need to improve our selection [squad], because when I took over we had six or seven players above 33 years old.” the manager said yesterday.

“But now we have a much younger team and still we need a much younger selection because we need creative players in attack and also fast players. I like [our] own youth players more because they already know the culture in Manchester United, and that is also the philosophy for example of Ajax or Barcelona and also Bayern Munich.” added the Dutchman

“He [Ibrahimovic] is already 34 and I just spoke about the age [of the players].” Although it is encouraging to see a manager wanting to promote youth at a big club it is a surprise to see his unwillingness to go out and buy a top quality striker when one is available for free.

Zlatan’s wage demands might also prove to be another stumbling block that Van Gaal might have looked at. It is reported that his representatives want his next club to pay him a whopping £600,000 per week in one last big payoff.

Spurs game crucial for United

United have had an unimpressive season so far but recent results have given renewed optimism to the fans. The Red Devils are currently 5th place in the table and four points behind City after their win over West Brom yesterday.

They can close the gap back to a point today and dash Spurs's hopes of a title with a win at White Hart Lane, but that’s easier said than done. The Lilywhites have been one of the standout teams of the season and are currently chasing Leicester City.

United do have history on their side but will have to put in one heck of a performance to get a result at the Lane
