A thrilling end to a typical pre-season match that was lacking in energy but players showed their quality on the pitch in spurts. Manchester City took the lead two times in the game only to give it away twice. They finally managed to beat the Italian side on penalties as Joe Hart scored a penalty and then went on to save two in a row.

Manchester City got off to a blistering start as their recent £49 million recruit put them ahead in little more than two minutes. Raheem Sterling’s debut goal only kept the lead for minutes as Miralem Pjanic’s stunning strike put Roma level with the Citizens. The teams would go into half time with the scores level.

The second half would see some drama as Ashley Cole’s awkward and poor backpass fell into Iheanacho’s path and the young City striker made no mistake in slotting it past the keeper. With little more than 10 minutes to go in the game, Yaya Toure gave away a freekick just outside the box which Adem Ljajic gladly curled home.

It set up a penalty showdown between the two which Manchester City would go on to win despite Aleksandr Kolarov’s early miss during the shootout, thanks to a Joe Hart special. The English goalkeeper saw Ljajic score a panenka past him as Roma missed none of their first 4 penalties. He then scored a penalty for City and saved both Doumbia’s weak attempt and Keita’s shot to win the game for the Sky Blues.
