Video: Spain hoping to avoid Brazil in semis by topping group at Confederations Cup

David Villa and Pepe Reina spoke at a news conference at the Confederations Cup in Brazil.

Spain hope to to top their group to avoid the hosts in the semi-finals.

Pepe Reina, Spain Goalkeeper (On Liverpool‘s signing of a new goalkeeper)

“It hasn’t changed a bit. I said it many times. I’m very comfortable, I’m very happy at Liverpool and, if the team needs competence, when it is a positive and a quality player, it is more than welcomed. So, if it’s said it’s finally done, I’ll just welcome him a lot and, anything he needs, I’m here!”

David Villa, Spain striker (On avoiding Brazil at semifinals)

“We have seen the first two matches with Brazil. I didn’t see today’s game. But they are playing a great tournament, a game with quick, dangerous players up front. Defensively, they are very strong. Their numbers speak for themselves, from what they have achieved in a group that it is a difficult one. For me, from the two groups, they are in the tougher one. It’s a difficult team to beat and, we hope that tomorrow we can win so we qualify as top team and avoid them at the semifinals. Let’s see how it goes, if we can face them later.”

(On Neymar signing with Barcelona)

“I believe that Neymar is one of the best players we have in the world so far. We and the fans have been trying to have him at Barcelona and it is a joy for us all to have great players coming to your country to play. In this case, playing for your club is important for all and I believe he will be very warmly welcomed and I’m sure he’ll give us lots of joy.”

Pepe Reina, Spain Goalkeeper (On Brazil’s capacity to host the World Cup)

“I believe that Brazil is ready. Obviously, the protests – well, we don’t have the knowledge to tell you why they are protesting – it looks to me that they are within their rights – if it is done peacefully. They have the full right to protest for what they believe it is right. I can’t say more than this, to tell you the truth. But, if you ask me whether the country is ready to host the World Cup, I would say to you ‘Yes, of course!’ “

David Villa, Spain striker (On Pep Guardiola’s debut)

“Well, Pep Guardiola’s a great coach, he has showed it, his numbers have showed it since he started on the job. He will lead the team that is the best in Europe now, with great players at a squad that had an exceptional season. In this case, a great coach at a great team, sure it will be a tough opponent for the rest of the teams in Europe”.
