Sage Northcutt reveals his “next step” after triumphant return at ONE Fight Night 10

‘Super’ Sage Northcutt is already looking ahead to his next matchup, fresh off an impressive win at ONE Fight Night 10 earlier this month.

After sitting on the sidelines for nearly four years, facing a series of unfortunate setbacks, Sage Northcutt made his triumphant return to the circle at ONE Fight Night 10. Northcutt shocked fans watching around the world when he made quick work of Pakistani mixed martial arts champion Ahmed Mujtaba, scoring a first-round heel hook submission.

With Northcutt avoiding damage in the contest, he’s ready to jump right back into the mix. As for who his next opponent could be, the Texas native revealed that he hopes to rebook a previously scheduled bout with Japanese combat sports legend Shinya Aoki:

“Yeah, so I’ve talked with ONE Championship, and we’re talking about making the match that I had before with Shinya come to life and happen now,” Northcut said during his appearance on Fistivities with KB & Renato Laranja. “So, I think that might be the next step, getting to fight Shinya Aoki.”

Shinya Aoki, a former ONE lightweight world champion, has had a rough go of it as of late, dropping three contests in 2022 including back-to-back MMA fights against Yoshihiro Akiyama and Saygid Izagakhmaev. He also came up short in a grappling match with current ONE lightweight submission grappling world champion Kade Ruotolo.
