Spain's Roma, Coma lead Dakar Rally races

Buenos Aires, Jan 10 (IANS) Spain’s Joan “Nani” Roma of team Mini and Marc Coma of KTM won the fifth stage of the 2014 Dakar Rally in the car and motorcycle races respectively, taking the lead in the off-road race.

In the difficult stage Thursday between Chilecito and Tucuman, in northern Argentina, Roma came in first with a time of 4 hours, 27 minutes and one second (4:27:01), trailed by South Africa’s Giniel De Villiers (Toyota) and American driver Robby Gordon (Hummer), reports Xinhua.

In the motorcycle race, Coma placed first with a time of 3:02:08, followed by compatriot Jordi Viladoms (KTM) and Portugal’s Helder Rodrigues.

In the quad race, Sergio Lafuente (Yamaha) won the stage with a time of 4:53:48, followed by Chilean Ignacio Casale (Yamaha) and Argentina’s Pablo Copetti.

In the truck race, the first place went to Russia’s Dimitry Sotnikov (Kamaz) with a time of 4:47:46.

The Dakar Rally will conclude Jan 18 in Valparaiso, Chile.
