Colin Kaepernick captivated a worldwide audience when he decided to take a knee during the national anthem back in 2016. The former NFL quarterback recently released a book titled "Change the Game." In an interview with CBS News, Kaepernick made a surprising claim against his adoptive parents, Rick and Teresa Kaepernick.
The former San Francisco 49ers star mentioned that his mother allegedly objected to him getting cornrows. He would appear "a little thug," she said, calling the hairstyle "unprofessional."
Kaepernick said:
"I know my parents loved me, but there were still very problematic things that I went through. I think it was important to show, 'No, this can happen in your own home.' And how do we move forward collectively while addressing the racism that is being perpetuated."

Colin Kaepernick has not played in an NFL game following his decision to opt out of his contract with the 49ers in 2017. He settled a lawsuit with the NFL in 2019 after claiming team owners were conspiring to keep him out of the league. He told CBS News that he still wants to compete in the NFL once again.
Kaepernick said:
"Five, six days a week I'm still up at 4:30, I go get my training in. Yeah, that passion is still there and the ability is still there."
The former second-round draft pick was given a workout with the Las Vegas Raiders last year, but no contract was offered by the team. Time will tell if Colin Kaepernick gets that second chance in the NFL.
