"You've got to do the work" - Colts GM drops massive hint on potential Lamar Jackson trade

Lamar Jackson has sensationally revealed that he requested a trade away from the Baltimore Ravens on March 2 via his Twitter account. With several teams needing a quarterback, it was surprising to see so many teams "out" of the Jackson sweepstakes.

But that was when the thought was Jackson would still be a Raven, he doesn't want to be anymore. One team that has been lurking in the background is the Indianapolis Colts and what general manager Chris Ballard stated at the NFL owners meeting has perhaps hinted at something.

Currently holding the fourth overall pic, the general thought was the Colts were going to take a quarterback, but that has been turned on its head with Ballard's comments.

Ballard said via Stephen Holder of ESPN:

"Anytime a special player is available, which he is, you've got to do the work. I'm not gonna get into deep discussions on where it's at or what we're doing or what we might do.

"But what I'll tell you is he's a really good player, really special player. But you never know how any of this will work out. But I think anytime at that position we have a chance to acquire a guy, you've got do your work on it to see if it's doable."

So at face value, it seems that the Colts are at least entertaining the idea of going after Lamar Jackson as he has now requested a trade. Whether or not it is doable financially is another thing entirely, but Indianapolis is at least looking at the possibility.

Jackson could work in just about any offense, but the key detail is that the offense would need to be tailored around him. Given that the Colts have a star running back in Jonathan Taylor, adding Jackson would create serious headaches for opposing teams.

Along with weapons in Michael Pittman Jr. and young tight end Jelani Woods, there are some pieces to work with. But for the Colts to acquire Lamar Jackson, their fourth overall pick would need to be included in any deal.

Just whether Indianapolis is willing to give that up is unknown, but the franchise is at least willing to look into the possibility of going after Jackson.
