Jakobi Meyers claps back at ESPN host for making fun of embarrassing lateral play vs Raiders

Jakobi Meyers made one of the most inexplicable decisions with the football last week, resulting in a crushing loss for the New England Patriots. He has owned his mistake, but he's become the butt of many jokes ever since.

One such joke came from John Brenkus, a Sports Science host. The show is returning, but not to ESPN, which is where the joke originated:

"Sports Science coming back to Ballsack Sports is as likely (cue Brenkus analogy voice) as Bill B allowing [Jakobi Meyers] to throw a pass for the Patriots this week."

Meyers saw the tweet and clapped back online:

"Somebody please give this man the laugh he was looing for."

The Patriots came together after the loss. Mac Jones, Meyers, Rhamondre Stevenson and even Bill Belichick assumed blame for the play that resulted in the most stunning loss a team has suffered in a while.

Still, Meyers (given his role in the play) has been criticized heavily. Especially as the loss has at least temporarily cost the Patriots a playoff spot.

What did Jakobi Meyers do?

Jakobi Meyers made one of the most head-scratching decisions in all of football on Sunday. The Patriots might have lost anyway, but Meyers' play ensured they did.

With the clock nearly at zero, the Patriots ran a draw play to Stevenson, who got into field goal range. However, since there was no time remaining, so the end of the run didn't matter if it wasn't in the end zone.

Before being tackled, he lateraled it to Meyers. Meyers then retreated 10 yards to try and find space and pull off a miracle play. When he was unable to, he tried to lateral it back to Mac Jones.

Jones was far away from Meyers. The latter is a former college quarterback, but he couldn't get the ball to Jones. It was intercepted by former Patriot Chandler Jones, who ran the ball back for a game-ending touchdown.

The loss dropped the Patriots to 7-7 and out of the playoffs. With just three games remaining, losses like this one are particularly tough to swallow. They'll need an impressive run of form to get into the postseason.
